KUCHING: The Congress of Unions Of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak branch is calling on more unions to join as members in order to give it more clout in championing the welfare of it members.

Its president Cecelia Yong Mee Chai said the congress needed more members in order to be

more effective in the state.

“We need more members to represent their respective unions,’ she said at the year-end dinner organised by the branch at a hotel here on Wednesday night.

She also called on civil servants in the state to support the transformation programmes carried out by the government by giving their best in their daily tasks and improving their services to give their departments a good image.

“Cuepacs fights for salary rise, allowances, bonuses and other benefits from the government. At least we give something back to them (the government).

“Be responsible in doing our job and improve our service delivery. I hope not to hear any complaint from members of the public in the newspaper,” she advised them.

She appealed to the state government to extend the services of about 83 contract employees of local authorities that will expire end of December.

“I hope their problem will be looked at by the state government seriously by extending their contract. They need to work to earn a living for their families and being out of work will put them in difficulties,” she said.

Among those present were Pemanca Austin Dimin, who was representing Assistant Health Minister Dr Jerip Susil, and Cuepacs Sarawak secretary Ahmad Malie.
